Actress Marion Cotillard sparked a political row yesterday after accusing America of fabricating the 9/11 attacks.
The 32-year-old French actress, who received an Oscar last month for her performance as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose, openly questioned the truth behind the terrorist atrocity in an interview broadcast on a French website.
"I think we're lied to about a number of things," Cotillard said, singling out the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center as an example of the US making up horror stories for political ends.
Referring to the two passenger jets being flown into the Twin Towers, Cotillard said:
"We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes. Are they burned? They [sic] was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burnt for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [in New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed."
She added that the towers, planned in the early Sixties, were an outdated "money-sucker" that would have cost more to modernise than to rebuild altogether, which is why they were destroyed.
She said: "It was a money-sucker because they were finished, it seems to me, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them."

It's not easy meeting one of your favorite stars from when you were a teen. But recently, I had the oppertunity to do just that. I had the chance to visit the set of "Total Pop Star" on its media day. It was great to meet Andrew Van Slee in person after interviewing him via the phone last month! Great guy indeed. I was on a mission not to say "Whoah!" to Joey Lawrence. I succeeded. What a humble and real guy Joey turned out to be. And of course...........I met Deborah Gibson. I had a major crush on "Debbie" years ago and seeing her in person, it all came flooding back. I admit that I wasn't able to be very coherent with Deborah. I said something like "Monkey, Ice Cream, Boom Boom" to introduce myself and it seemed to hit her funny bone. My nerves won and I stammered an introduction and she was very charming to me. She giggled through our conversation and said that I was a "cutie". You hear that world? Deborah Gibson has obviously fallen in love with me. Veteran comedy "Scrubs" is caught in a tug-of-war between NBC and ABC.ABC is in negotiations to pick up 18 episodes of the series from ABC Studios, which has produced the comedy for NBC since 2001. NBC brass are said to have been caught off guard when THR.com broke the story Thursday.

Jonathan Jaxson - a former publicist and founder of gossip site JJ's Dirt - told Page Six he sent Lavandeira sexually explicit videos of himself with the hope of Lavandeira's help, which never materialized.
"He would tell me he would give me stories for my blog," Jaxson, 24, said of Lavandeira, 29. "He used me."
We've obtained pages of lengthy AOL Instant-Messenger chats between Jaxson and "Perez Hilton," who has risen to fame with his Web site, where he doodles on photos of celebrities accompanied by scathing insults.
The New York Times ran a gushing puff piece on "Perez" Tuesday, reporting he gets 2.8 million visitors a month and is in talks with Warner Music for his own label because he has such a great ear for new music.
In an exchange from Sept. 1, 2007, Lavandeira told Jaxson, "you should totally make a sex tape . . . (but not with me)." Jaxson wrote back, "I will have to make one on here for you tomorrow and e-mail it to you." Lavandeira responded, "Hot! Do it now!"
The next afternoon, Lavandeira asked Jaxson, "When are you sending me that video you promised?" Jaxson responded, "If you do a phone blog with me for my blog . . . as if I am cold calling you in attempt to get advice for my blog. You can be totally rude. I don't want others to know we talk."
The next day, Lavandeira asked again, "Where is that video?"
Jaxson told Page Six he sent Lavandeira videos of himself masturbating and other forms of "sex videos," but said he only met Lavandeira in person three times - once in Florida and twice in New York.
