Video: Lance Corporal Aaron Leeks Asks Michelle Obama To Marine Corps Ball

(AP) Michelle Obama has dropped off more than 800 gifts from White House staff to the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign. The first lady also got an unexpected invitation from a Marine. Lance Cpl. Aaron Leeks of Frederick, Md., says he asked Mrs. Obama to accompany him to next year's Marine Corps Ball. He says she told him she'd "love to go," but he would need to speak to her husband, too. Leeks says he plans to follow up on his invitation. In January, he will be deployed for the first time to Afghanistan but plans to attend the ball when he's home next year. The first lady hauled a big red bag of toys to the Washington military base Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. She wished volunteers a Merry Christmas and helped sort toys into bins marked for boy and girls by age group. It was her last stop before heading off to Hawaii for the holidays with daughters Malia and Sasha. The president plans to join them when he's able.
